The meet-cute
Rhys first started working at ILE in August of 2011. Starting off in the factory he would get his hands dirty, learning the ins and outs of the manufacturing process. Today he holds a very rewarding role reviewing and fixing processes, helping ILE run like a well oiled machine!
Rhys, tell us about your journey so far!
“Over the past 13 years at International Lift Equipment, I have had the opportunity to work in various departments, gaining valuable experience across multiple roles. I began my journey as a general labourer and laser operator, gradually progressing into programming and later transitioning into design.
Throughout my career, I have worked hands-on in the factory, engaging with numerous manufacturing processes. This experience paved the way for my role in the drawing office as a mechanical draughtsman, eventually advancing to the position of design engineer from 2014 to 2019.
Subsequently, I moved into the Research and Development (R&D) department, contributing to the ILE remote monitoring product. Currently, I am involved in refining internal processes while continuing my work within the R&D department.”
How have your responsibilities changed?
“My responsibilities have evolved significantly over the years as I have grown within the company. I have been fortunate enough to receive opportunities that have carried varying levels of responsibility, allowing me to manage my own projects with the support of the team.”
Have you felt supported by the organisation through your roles?
“The team at ILE has been instrumental in my growth across all my roles. Their support has provided me with the confidence and reassurance needed to learn and develop without the fear of failure. I have always felt encouraged and backed by my team leaders and managers, which has been invaluable to my career.”
What’s been your favourite project?
“I have been involved in multiple projects over the years, each providing me with valuable experience. One of my favourite projects has been working alongside the team to create the ILE MRL. It was incredibly rewarding to be involved in every aspect of the product, from design and manufacture through to installation. Contributing to the development of a full product from the ground up is a unique and fulfilling experience that not everyone gets to have.”
What changes have you seen over the years?
“The most significant changes I’ve witnessed over the years have been not only in the products that ILE offer but also within the team itself.”
Loyalty is important to ILE. Do you enjoy the family ethos within the company?
“I feel genuinely supported within the company; the team has a familial feel that flows through our daily operations. Knowing that we work together as a cohesive team provides a sense of care, support, and security that is reminiscent of a family. The people I work with are always available to help and support each other, which fosters a strong sense of camaraderie. Additionally, the presence of many long-standing employees allows us to build deep, meaningful relationships over time.”
What’s your favourite thing about working at ILE?
“My favourite aspect of working at ILE is the team around me. They are fun, approachable, and highly knowledgeable, which creates a supportive and enjoyable work environment. Additionally, the unique opportunity to be involved in the in-house manufacturing process is invaluable. Witnessing our collective design ideas come to life firsthand is a rare and rewarding experience in today’s industry.”
What are your future goals/aspirations?
“My current focus is on deepening my understanding of the lift industry and finding my place within it. ILE has played a pivotal role in my growth and understanding of this field, and I look forward to continuing my learning and development and career journey with the company.”
